Rani Mukerji has played many strong and fearless roles in films. But in real life, she says there is someone who keeps her on her toes every day and that’s her daughter, Adira.

In a recent interview, Rani made a comment that, she said she is scared of her daughter and jokingly added that she cannot even think of slapping her because “she would slap me back.” The line was said with humour, but it revealed a lot about parenting in today’s time.

A New Generation, a New Kind of Child

Rani called her daughter part of Generation Alpha - the generation born after 2010. These kids are confident, quick-thinking, and never afraid to speak their mind. Rani laughed that this means she sometimes feels like her daughter has her number.

In her own words: “She also fires me. She is Gen Alpha, so she fires me and I have to listen to her… I used to get slaps from my mom. I can’t expect to do that with her because she would slap me back.” It was said jokingly, but it perfectly captures how different parenting feels today compared with earlier generations.

Parenting Has Changed Completely

Rani explained that children today are very different from how children were earlier. This new generation, often called Gen Alpha, is confident, aware, and not afraid to speak up.

Unlike earlier times, children today are not raised with fear. They are taught to share opinions and stand up for themselves. Rani believes this is one of the biggest changes in parenting.

According to Rani, Adira knows her mind. She talks back, asks questions, and is not easily scared by authority. Rani shared that today’s children understand right and wrong very clearly, and they expect adults to listen to them.

This makes parenting both interesting and challenging. Parents can no longer rely on strict rules. They need patience and understanding.

A Daughter Who Cheerleads

Rani also spoke about how close she and Adira are. After losing her own father, Rani says that her daughter has become her biggest cheerleader. The bond between them is deep, and Adira shows love in her own honest way.

Interestingly, Adira doesn’t love watching all of her mother’s films. She finds it hard to watch emotional scenes, especially ones where her mom cries, but she loves seeing her dancing or happy in movies.

Why Rani Says She’s “Scared”

When Rani says she is scared of her daughter, she does not mean it in a negative way. What she really means is that children today are strong and sharp. They cannot be controlled the old-fashioned way.

Parents now have to think before they speak. They have to explain their actions. Discipline today is about guidance, not punishment.

From Strict Parenting to Friendly Parenting

In the past, many parents believed in strict discipline. But Rani feels those times are changing. Physical punishment is no longer acceptable, and children are more aware of their rights.

She believes respect works better than fear. When children feel heard, they behave better and grow up more confident.

Rani’s story shows that parenting today is about learning along the way. Parents are growing just as much as their children.

Her comment may sound funny, but it carries a real message that parenting has changed, and parents need to change with it.
