Sonu Sood Breaks Down as 8 Year Old Abhijot Singh Loses Fight Against Rare Kidney Disease

Actor and philanthropist  Sonu Sood has always been in the news for his good deeds. This time, it is for a young child who lost his fight against a kidney ailment. Sonu Sood has expressed his grief over the loss of Abhijot Singh, a young boy who bravely fought a rare kidney disorder.

Abhijot Singh was just 8 years old. Despite his young age, he showed courage in facing the challenging illness he was going through. He went through treatments, multiple procedures, with the hope that one day he would recover and run around like other children.

What Happened To Abhijot?

Abhijot was diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome. It is a rare kidney disorder.

In Nephrotic Syndrome, the kidneys leak too much protein from the blood into the urine. This causes symptoms like swelling, fluid buildup, and low levels of protein in the blood. It is a chronic condition and not easily treatable.

In Abhijot’s case, both his kidneys were damaged. He needed regular treatment. He had to travel about every two months to PGIMER hospital in Chandigarh for checkups and care. Each round of treatment costs approximately ₹45,000.

The family lived in a village in Amritsar. Unfortunately, they were severely impacted by the recent flood,s which destroyed their farm. This made travel and access to medical care very difficult for Abhijot’s parents.

Doctors said that if he received consistent care, he might have overcome many of the symptoms and possibly been able to live a fuller life by the time he turned 18.

What Nephrotic Syndrome Requires

Nephrotic Syndrome is a rare disease and needs special attention.

The treatment involves steroids and sometimes other immunosuppressive drugs. The child may need ongoing medication to reduce protein loss and swelling.

There have to be dietary restrictions. Salt has to be reduced and fluid intake needs to be controlled to support the kidneys.

Regular monitoring of urine, blood and kidney through the dedicated tests.

Sonu Sood’s Involvement & Support

Over the years, Sonu Sood has been stepping forward when others hesitate. In Abhijot’s case, he made sure his story was heard. He shared updates on social media so people knew about the struggles this young child was going through.

He also took care of the heavy medical expenses. He made sure Abhijot could continue his treatment without any interruptions.

In 2023, Abhijot’s family lost their farmland due to heavy floods in Amritsar and it was their only source of livelihood. Sonu Sood stepped in during this crisis and supported the family with relief. Sonu ensured nothing stops Abhijot from getting the necessary treatment.

But Sonu’s connection went far deeper than financial help. He would often visit and enquire about Abhijot’s health. So when the heartbreaking news of Abhijot’s passing came, Sonu could not hold back his emotions.

Sonu Sood often referred to Abhijot as a little warrior and said he felt deeply connected to him.

The loss of Abhijot is felt by every person who was following his story. A brave little soul, gone too soon.
