‘I Am Responsible’ — Minutes After Her Baby Drowned, Mom Took This Drastic Step

Mahantesh Wali, a software engineer from Bengaluru, returned home from work around 6:30 pm, only to find the door locked from inside. He knocked but, much to his surprise, no one replied.

Mahantesh’s 29-year-old wife, Pratibha, and his 11-month-old son, Agastya, were at home. He tried calling her, but no one answered. Panicked, he used his spare key to open the door, only to find his worst fears had come true — his wife and his son were no more.

Pratibha had hanged herself using her saree, and her child was lifeless on the bed, surrounded by strips of paracetamol. Pratibha’s left wrist was also slit.

A suicide note was kept next to the baby, in which Pratibha held herself responsible for Agastya’s death.

While Mahantesh was at work, Pratibha had gone to the terrace to dry clothes. As per initial investigation, Agastya is believed to have crawled to a bucket filled with water and accidentally fallen into it, leading to his drowning. When Pratibha saw her son lifeless, she couldn’t bear the guilt and decided to end her life as well

She initially tried to end her life by overdosing on paracetamol and cutting her wrist, but eventually resorted to hanging herself. The incident is both shocking and heartbreaking.
