Have you ever had a moment when something your child says just stops you in your tracks? Sometimes one small question from your children feels so heavy. That’s exactly what happened to actress Kajol when her 8-year-old son Yug asked her something that changed how she thought about self-love.
In a recent episode of her talk show Two Much with Twinkle Khanna, Kajol opened up about parenting. A moment that she won’t forget.
The Question From Yug
Kajol recalls on day, Yug turned to her and asked, “How much do you love yourself?”
Kajol replied honestly that she loved herself maybe 60–70% of the time, adding that some days she felt off or unsure. But Yug, wise beyond his years, said simply, “No, you have to love yourself 100% of the time.”
Why Parents Need to Care for Themselves
When was the last time you did something just for yourself? Maybe it was reading a book, taking a walk or simply enjoying a quiet cup of tea. These small acts of care matter. They recharge us and remind our children that self-love is necessary.

Children Notice Parents
That small question stayed with her. Kajol realized that children notice things we adults often forget. They see beyond words and actions. They notice our habits, our moods and the way we treat ourselves.
We often assume kids can't see beyond their toys or cartoons. But Yug’s question shows children notice how we treat ourselves. Sometimes, their words carry more weight than we expect.
As parents, we often feel pressure to have it all together, but we don’t need to. Kids don’t need perfect parents. Self-love is not being selfish.
Parenting is full of little surprises. Children often see more than we expect, and their questions can teach us important lessons about ourselves.
And sometimes, they give you lessons you never knew you needed.
