A shocking story has come out from Bengaluru, where a 9-year-old Class 5 boy was beaten with a plastic pipe by his school principal. The child was also made to stand for two hours as punishment. This happened in a private school in Sunkadakatte, in the southwest part of the city.

According to reports, the boy had missed school for two days - October 11 and 13. When he returned on October 14 to pick up his bag, his teacher scolded him and sent him to the principal’s office.

What Happened Inside the Principal’s Room

The child said that the principal hit him with a PVC pipe on his legs, hands, and back. Every time he tried to move away, the principal allegedly hit him again. A teacher and another staff member were also in the room but did nothing to stop it.

After the beating, the boy was forced to stand for nearly two hours without being allowed to sit or rest. When he went home, he was in pain and had marks on his body. His parents immediately took him to a hospital for treatment.

Parents File a Complaint

The parents were deeply hurt and angry. They went to the police and filed a complaint against the school principal and teacher. The police have registered a case under the Juvenile Justice Act for cruelty against a child.

The school did not take responsibility and instead asked the parents to obtain a transfer certificate for their son. This response made the parents even more upset, as they felt the school was trying to cover up the issue.

The Pain

It is heartbreaking to imagine a young boy in pain just because he missed school for two days. There could have been so many other ways to talk to him. A gentle approach or involving parents could have also solved the matter. Instead, violence was used.

Yes, children make mistakes and it’s the elders' responsibility to make them understand, but there is always a way to handle things.

A school should never be a place where a child feels afraid to go. Teachers and principals are given the power to shape young minds. Misusing the power is not justified.

This little boy in Bengaluru will recover from his physical injuries, but the mental trauma will remain with him forever.

Let’s hope justice is done, and more importantly, that schools across the country take this as a lesson.
